In this blog post, I am walking you through the six core software systems that I believe you need to set up in your online business so you can start to make money! The reason why I'm going through these six core systems is that I know for many of you, including myself, getting started in the online space was a web that was hard to untangle. I didn't know where to get started or how to get started. What is email marketing? Why do I need a website? What is an opt-in and all of that stuff? Right?

The reason why I want to talk about the software systems is that when you're starting in the online business, space, and world, a lot is going on. And sometimes it's challenging to sift through what systems to start with. How will you know which systems to use and which is the right one? So I just want to give you this checklist and break down the six core systems to make it easy for you because part of a thriving online business or part of a thriving business in general, whether it's brick and mortar or full service-based. Whatever it looks like, ensuring you have proper systems in place. Because when all of your systems are in place and streamlined, your business run like a well-oiled machine and it can run like clockwork, which is so so so important. Check out the checklist that goes with this blog post in the link here.

Here are the 6 software systems I would like to share with you today:

  1. Asana - a project management tool. It's amazing, it's crucial to running and organizing your online business operations. Why do you need it? Because you need a software system to help you manage, organize and run your online business. Asana allows you to neatly organize all of your operations and tasks from executive tasks, to marketing to client servicing, and so much more. What I love about Asana is that you can create SOPs, you can create automation and you can do all of this on their free version, just make sure you sign up with a business email address. If you want to check out Asana more in detail, check out my Asana Guide.

  2. Squarespace - An online web platform that allows you to easily and effortlessly build your website. We have been on Squarespace since day one. I know there are other ones out there like WordPress that are popular. I don't have a ton of experience with them. But what I can tell you with Squarespace is that it is super simple, super easy. And I love when things are super simple and easy because complexity is the enemy of execution. The more complex something is, the least likely you are going to take action, right. And so Squarespace is phenomenal at this. They make it super-intuitive, user experience is amazing... it's fantastic. But in addition to why you need Squarespace is because ultimately you do need a website.

  3. ConvertKit - The third software system to get up and running is your email marketing system. I love ConvertKit. It allows you to capture leads, create automation, build sequences, and so much more. I knew that we needed an email list in about February 2015, a month after we launched the podcast, but I just wasn't in it. I was very overwhelmed and I kept pushing it off. I'm like, do I really need an email? Literally now looking back five years later, I'm laughing at myself thinking, ‘Amanda, you said to yourself, do I really need to email?’ Is email going to go away? Nope, here we are five years later, six years later, we're still using email friends. So I'm telling you this because I don't want you to overcomplicate it and do what I did (pole vault over mouse turds), where I made something so big in my mind that I made it seem that I had to pole vault over it when really it was super, super small. I can't stress and encourage you enough to really start digging into setting up your email system, whether or not it's with ConvertKit. Building an email list is one of the fundamentals of having any sort of business, especially online, and it's an absolute must because that's where you're going to capture your leads, which is your potential customers.

  4. Podia - Software number four is an online store. I am recommending Podia, I love Podia! I love their customer service. I love how agile they are. And they are super, super customer-centric and always wanting to know and get feedback from their customers. Podia is online software that allows you to create, market and sell digital courses, online programs, and memberships. I actually use podia for my coaching programs. You can check them out at shediditherwaypodcast.com/podia for a 14-day free trial. They have so many amazing tutorials that you can dive into and get started right away!

  5. Legal System and Accounting - Software system number five, if you don't have set up already, is kind of a two-part system. It's your legal system and your accounting. So in terms of legal, what I mean by that is making sure that you are incorporated, making sure that you have the proper insurances for your business, making sure that you have anything else that goes along that is important from a business standpoint to have, obviously setting up and incorporating and figuring out which legal entity to do it there as well. I consider that a system. If you don't have that set up already, and you're building a business, you definitely want to have that setup as well. Also, kind of underneath the legal aspect, maybe not necessarily a system per se, but thinking about having disability insurance and having health insurance, getting that set up, and having any other types of insurances that you may need when you are a full-time business owner. The other piece is accounting, making sure that you've got your business banking setup. Make sure that you have your retirement options in place that you're putting money into. So you've got your business banking and you've got any sort of retirement stuff set up. I use QuickBooks, it's accounting software that provides tools to manage finances. If you've got QuickBooks setup and those systems in place, it's going to make it much easier for you to go out and run your business.

  6. Social Media - The final software system. You have some sort of system in place that is repurposing your social media content so whether that's Hootsuite or Meet Edgar but having that system in place to make sure that the beautiful content you're creating is getting pushed out and published to the world. Along with that, when it comes to social media, make sure you've got your Facebook business page, Instagram for business page, and your LinkedIn page all set up. This ensures that you are laying the foundation and capturing all those potential leads from all angles and getting them set up and so that you can just go ahead and market your services.

With these 6 software systems, you should be ready to start marketing your business out into the world!

See you next week my dear friends!
