Hello friends! Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday!

I am so excited to do today's blog post because we will talk about how to get yourself into action! And yes even if you don't feel like doing it!

These are the common questions I got from those who wanted to start their own business…

"Amanda, starting a business is so overwhelming, I don't even know to start?"

“There are so many things that I know I need to do but which one do I even start with?“

“How do I know it is the right thing?”

  • Where is my resistance come from?

    • Asking this question usually uncovers a lot and it is typically derived from how I'm thinking about the task and making it a bigger thing in my head than it needs to be. Or what I like to say, pole vault over mouse turds.

    • It is usually vague in terms of the steps that I need to take and because it is vague, I'm not inspired to take action because I can't see or understand how doing this said task will help me in my business. It wasn't actionable.

    • Not necessarily knowing where to get a start. Going back to it being vague but also knowing that what I need to get done is important but gen. not sure where to start taking action.

  • Could this have been avoided and if so, what process/system do I need to put in place to making it so that it doesn't happen again?

“For all of the most important things, the timing always sucks. Waiting for a good time to quit your job? The stars will never align and the traffic lights of life will never all be green at the same time. The universe doesn't conspire against you, but it doesn't go out of its way to line up the pins either. Conditions are never perfect. "Someday" is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you. Pro and con lists are just as bad. If it's important to you and you want to do it "eventually," just do it and correct course along the way.”

If you experience resistance when it comes to taking action. Try the following tips:

  • To create easy and fast momentum, tell yourself you only need to work on the said task for two minutes. Usually, the biggest resistance one experiences are starting. So if you tell yourself you only need to do it for two minutes to get yourself started, then do it. The goal here is to get you into action.

  • If you're overwhelmed by what you need to get done, remind yourself that your to-do list is no overwhelming, it is the way you're choosing to think about your to-do list that is making you overwhelmed. It is all in your head. I promise.

  • If you still find yourself stalling, break down whatever task, into the smallest bite-sized tasks as possible. For example, I've worked with many folks who have tried to build a website for months but some reason, are still stalled out from starting 5 months later.

    • Grab a sheet of paper and start writing all the things you need to create your website:

      • domain

      • provider

      • template

      • colors

      • pictures

      • copy

      • pages

      • CTA

    • then go back and expand even more...

        • How are you going to decide the domain name

        • how are you going to select the provider, template, colors, you name it.

      • When it comes to writing the copy, start in a google doc and once you've created your final draft, then transfer it into your website.

      • I recommend using a blank sheet a paper when you need to brain-dump and figure out what needs to get out because there is something about pen to paper and letting it flow

    • If you ever find yourself asking a question and your response is "I don't know." I want you to ask yourself, "But if I did know, what would it be?" Refrain from using the phrase I don't know. It is a dangerous mental cycle to get yourself into.

    • Remember why you need to get started. Let's say you have an email sequence you need to write and it'd be easy to push it to offer and delay it but remember why you need to start today. Remind yourself of all the people who need your wisdom and that you could be helping with your on-boarding sequence. Leverage your emotions to help get you into action.

    • On the flip side of positive emotions, you can leverage uncomfortable ones to also get you into action. Imagine where you could be this time next year if you just decided to start today. Consider what you're missing out on, by not starting.

    • Give yourself to take imperfect action. If you're stalling because you want it to be perfect. Don't. Be okay with B minus work. Because by putting out B minus work, you're still able to put out work and impact others.
